Whenever you take a sip of tea you’re entering in a ceremony that’s thousands of years old. We galdly call all our herbal beverages tea.
One legend says that Chinese emperor Shennong, who is sometimes called the divine farmer, figured out how to make tea when leaves fell into water he was boiling about 4,500 years ago. Shennong was said to have experimented with hundreds of different herbs in his day, and he was a huge contributor to the development of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
One of the oldest known books about tea is the Ch’a Ching, which means The Classic of Tea, written around A.D. 760 during the Tang Dynasty. The author Lu Yü included information on the history of tea, growing methods, tools needed and how to prepare it. Lu Yü infuses spirituality in this manual and expresses the power of all the rituals surrounding tea, especially slowing down to appreciate the beverage.

“Drink your tea slowly and reverently, as if it is the axis on which the world earth revolves — slowly, evenly, without rushing toward the future.” – Thich Nat Hahn
