First Case Of Coronavirus In Nigeria, Doctors Are At Alert

News broke out yesterday that an Italian man landed into Lagos, Nigeria, yesterday with Corona virus and  Nigerians are understandably worried about contacts of the index case , the Italian who tested positive for Corona Virus Infection .

NCDC has personnel in all the states and works in partnership with State Ministries of health . Each state has Chief Epidemiologist who have field epidemiologists working under him.
Other multinational partners are also around many states including the most remote areas like WHO, MSF etc and their activities are well synchronized.

In a situation like this a pragmatic contact tracing is activated and all the possible contacts of the index case is tracked down and monitored over the period of incubation.
As soon as any of the contacts shows signs of the disease quarantine is activated and he is taken to isolation.

I can assure you that the system works rather well and we are not completely helpless.
Just do your part as a good citizen, pass any useful information to the appropriate quarters . If you made contact with the victim kindly come forward.
If you see anyone with symptoms notify the state ministry. Please do not go to “lay hands “ on suspects please !
Do not spread false information, do not spread unconfirmed information. Do not spread panic .
