Facts About Rosemary Plant and Its Essential Oil

Rosemary is a perennial herb in the mint family that occurs naturally throughout the Mediterranean region and is widely cultivated elsewhere. The herb gets its name from the Latin ros and marinus that means "dew of the sea" because it hardly needs any more moisture than that provided by sea breeze.

A good source of fiber, calcium and iron, rosemary adds earthy goodness to soups, stews, breads and roasted meats and vegetables. 


Flavonoids, Rosmarinic acid, Diterpenes, Volatile oil, Rosmaricine, Tannins are the active compounds in rosemary. The part used is the leaf . dried cut and sifted and stored in an airtight container in a cool and dark place. The appearance and aroma are needle-like and highly fragrant.
Applications
In cosmetics:Hot water infusions are used as hair and scalp tonics and in astringent skin toners.
In culinary:Add flavor to salad dressings, culinary oils, baked goods and grilled meats and vegetables.
In households:Rosemary infusions and extracts are used in natural cleaners.
Aromatics:Include in incense and potpourri blends.
In industries:Rosemary extract is used as a natural preservative.
Powdered Rose Mary

Like the whole herb, powdered rosemary is aromatic, flavorful and high in vitamin B-6, iron, calcium and antioxidants.
While the powder is typically encapsulated as a dietary supplement, it can also be added directed to foods while cooking. Powdered rosemary can also be used in various cosmetic formulations, as well in incense blends, potpourri and other in other crafts.
